Francesco de Carlo
Francesco De Carlo is an Italian comedian, radio host and TV writer from Rome. Starting his comedy career with some of the most high profile comedians in Italy, Sabina Guzzanti, Neri Marcorè and Trio Medusa (La7, Rai3 e Rai Due), Francesco became one of the hosts of the most popular show on Rome’s Radio Globo, and is at the forefront of the new generation of stand up in Italy. During his sharp ascent, Francesco has won multiple awards, including the Festival di Cabaret di Grottammare and the Talenti Comici, and his TV appearances have included four series of Stand Up Comedy and three series of Comedy Central News on Comedy Central Italia. As a former political scientist, spending four years working as a press officer at the European Parliament, Francesco became disillusioned by the political sphere but found he had plenty of comedic material…
Francesco made his Edinburgh Fringe Festival debut in 2014 and firmly set his sights on his international career when he performed as part of the Comedy Sans Frontieres project alongside Eddie Izzard, Dylan Moran and Alex Edelman, produced by Mick Perrin Worldwide.
His international career has since taken him across the world, performing in English in over 15 countries, including taking part in the Comedy Central International Showcase at JFL in Montreal and the Johannesburg International Comedy Festival, and ultimately inspired Francesco to follow his childhood dream and move to London… So far, he has joined Tommy Tiernan’s UK 2016 tour, Unspun with Matt Forde (Dave), Paul Hollywood’s Big Continental Road Trip (BBC 2), and The Arts Hour on Tour (BBC World Service).
This Summer sees Francesco return to the Edinburgh Fringe with his brand-new show, Comfort Zone. Inspired by his recent adventures, the show is a wonderful mixture of personal and political stories, told with natural hilarious charm by a man who brings a uniquely personal take on the recent international political upheavals. He asks – in a time in which all around the world populist movements and xenophobic politicians are winning the elections, the value of democracy has been questioned – but in reality, is it that we actually just don’t understand people anymore?
