Rob Heeney

Rob Heeney

UK

Over the past decade, Rob Heeney has established a dual reputation as both an award-winning comedy writer and one of the top comedians on the live circuit.

As a stand-up, Rob Has played all of the nation’s leading clubs including The Comedy Store, Jongleurs, Highlight, The Glee Clubs, Komedia, The Stand, The Frog & Bucket, Laughterhouse & Up the Creek. Further afield, he’s also performed in countries as diverse as the UAE, USA, the Netherlands and South Africa.

Described as ‘A definite must-see’ by UK Comedy Guide, Chortle, Rob’s refreshing brand of story-telling comedy blends playfulness and cynicism in equal measure. Charming and engaging, Rob’s hilarious anecdotes, and incredibly perceptive observations on modern life, address topics audiences the world over can relate to.

His own background gives him a wealth of experiences to draw-upon too; Originating from the Isle of Man, where he was born one Christmas Eve, Rob was a qualified Chemical Physicist, trained Systems Analyst, taxi driver and even International Table Tennis Player, before making the move into comedy!

Rob´s versatility, quick wit and excellent ad-libbing skills have made him a much sought after comic and compere. Over the years he has enjoyed long-term residencies in Guildford, Bracknell, Reading, Canterbury, Ealing, Hampstead, and Liverpool´s Rawhide. In 2009 he supported Jim Jeffries on his National Arena Tour and in 2011 was selected as a lead comedian on the Foster’s Funny 22-date tour of the UK.

An avid sports fan and current LTA Qualified Tennis Coach, Rob is often invited as a guest on sporting programmes – appearing on shows such as Radio 2’s football-based panel show ‘Never Write Off The Germans’, Radio 5 Live’s ‘Fighting Talk’ and most recently ‘TalkSPORT’s Guide to the Olympics’. In 2012 he also presented the popular Liverpool FC Podcast ‘Not Just a Matter of Life and Death’ every week.

A keen tennis player and 5-a-side footballer, Rob’s own sporting exploits however recently caused an involuntary break from stand-up. What started as a short time away from the circuit to concentrate on writing projects, was unexpectedly extended when Rob ruptured Achilles tendon. Months of recovery followed during which time he wasn’t able to ‘stand up’ at all.

On the bright side, the enforced sabbatical did give him time to write a wealth of brilliant new material (including a new hour-long solo show which was recently nominated for Best Comedy Show at Buxton Fringe 2012) and now he’s back, relishing his return to the circuit, delivering storming performances up and down the country and funnier than ever.

SOLO SHOWS

A veteran of the Edinburgh Fringe. Rob´s solo shows over the year have included ´No Pressure´ (2008) and Rom.com (2009)

He is currently a regular writer for both Capital FM Drivetime and EA Games.
